Official Press Release #1 – “Blastoff”

Wed 7th Feb 2018 - 7:00pm : General

History

The Milwaukee Wolves are officially launching today, February 7, 2018. The Wolves are dedicated to bringing the world of esports to Milwaukee, while providing a completely transparent viewing experience for the everyday fan.

The Milwaukee Wolves were conceptualized in late November, early December of 2017. It began with the ending of Cory “mott” Mott and Liam “Funk” Hickey’s PLAYERUNKNOWNs BATTLEGROUNDs career. Knowing that they did not want to leave the esports scene, they decided to shift into management roles. Not wanting to have to answer to a boss, they decided to create their own organization. Initially the organization was going to be called LeVerage, and consist of a Call of Duty team and some content creators. But, after hitting a slump, Cory reached out for help and was connected to Brayden Wilmoth and Dan Goodman.

Brayden and Dan would eventually help the two founders conceptualize the Wolves from the ground up. Geolocation, the Overwatch League, and the Esports Battle League all played a large part into the organization locating itself in Milwaukee. Following the creation of the concept, Liam took straight to the drawing board for the logo. He eventually came up with a mock up design that he would later give to Dan (@DebonairMedia) to create the final product. With the logo in place, the two owners began to expand the management team acquiring, Lucien “Loochy” Pickford, Jared Klein, AJ “Master” Chase, and Devin “Lock” Locklear. This has lead us to acquire players in three different esports to carry the organization to launch day.

Teams

The Milwaukee Wolves first dove into Overwatch. Instead of taking the traditional route of picking up an established team, we wanted to help captain “spongy” create a team from the ground up. We gave him our full resources and support to build the best team possible and they have no disappointed. About a month and a half into the building process and the team has already jumped up nearly a whole division in skill level and are preparing to begin their hunt for some tournament trophies.

“I’m happy that the Milwaukee Wolves have given me the opportunity to build their first team for the organization. Building the team was not an easy task, but it has felt rewarding every step of the way. Myself and the Overwatch team look forward to an exciting season with the Wolves, and we hope to make the organization as well as the fans proud as we progress!”

Our next expansion was into the realm of Call of Duty. We decided that we wanted to enter into Call of Duty due to the recent explosion of the scene and with Activision’s full support of esports. We decided to pick up the roster consisting of Kevin “KJ” Jordan, Jake “tuzz” Brimson, Sam “MonGhoster” Wilcox, and Victor “Identical” Chavez for the remainder of the 2018 season. They have high placings at previous local events, and we are putting in all our resources to develop this team for the 2019 season. With Jake turning 18 in December of this year, we are excited to develop the team for the upcoming Call of Duty to compete in the 2019 CWL series. The team will be attending the Esports Open Tour event in New Jersey February 23-25, where they will hopefully qualify for pool play.

“I am excited to be participating under the Milwaukee Wolves for the 2018 season. My team is prepared to work extremely hard to prove to the Wolves, as well as the community that we are a force to be reckoned with. We would like to thank Cory and the rest of the Wolves management for supporting us through the season and we are excited for the remainder of the season!”

Call of Duty Captain

Our most recent addition was in the Quake: Champions realm. With the growing Quake scene, it was hard to resist the emerging Railgunner Ben “StorBen” O’Reilly. Ben has been playing Quake for a little over two years and has decided to jump into the competitive scene. With Quake esports sitting on some down time, this has given Ben an extended amount of time to hone in on his skills and prepare for the upcoming season. Ben looks forward to competing in weekly cups run by ESL, as well as attending local and national tournaments in the upcoming season.

“I’m excited to be brought on with the Milwaukee Wolves and to help bring more eyes to the organization. I hope to be successful in 2018, and prove that the Wolves are for real.”
